U195 waveform
Hi
I bought a U195 a couple of weeks ago, and it sounds fine, although I haven't used it for any critical recordings yet. I was just curious/concerned about the audio waveform of recordings made with this mic.

Essential items for studio
What would you guys suggest to purchase for a home studio. I am planning to get one going and have read a lot on them. I want to get something good to record demo's at pretty good quality. Possibly to record other peoples demo's after i master all of the tools i purchase. I greatly appreciate any suggestions

Basic question, please clarify.
Lets say I'm running a MOTU 828 with a PowerBook... now, in this situation, will the quality of the PowerBook's soundcard matter at all? meaning, will it affect the quality of my recording and playback? is it even operating?

4 discrete inputs with m-audio 2496 and Cubase VST 24?
I'm trying to get four discrete inputs with my m-audio 2496 in a Mac G4 running OS9 and Cubase VST 24. I'm using the two audio ins with separate preamps, no problem. Recently I bought a used Roland VM-3100Pro digital mixer, with a digital stereo output. It does work with the 2496, but I can't figure out how to get Cubase to recognize all four ins, the two audio and the two digital.
Pro Tools - bouncing down
I'm using the Digi001 with Pro Tools 6.1.1. When "bouncing down," why does Pro Tools proceed to play the entire session as it's mixing everything down? Is there a way around this? Sometimes I have to work on something that's 50 or 60 minutes long, and the last thing anyone would want in this day and age of fast computers is to have to sit there for an hour as it bounces everything down.

Focusrite or Avalon -- which is better?
If you had two friends (OK, that drops most of your from the list), one wanted to give you an Avalon 737 and the other an old Focusrite 430 (not Mark II), which would you consider to be the better friend? Why?

Need help from experienced SSL mixing engineers
Dear Pros - please help me out:
We are about to finish off our new studios and install the SL 4056 G/G+. My questions concern two important aspects of this particular equipment: its ergonomics and how they relate to the "history" of pop/rock music mixing/recording. Please forgive my long-windedness and multi-level questions.

simple signal path question
typically, on a mixer, do tracks need to be assigned in order for signal to output from a tracks direct out? meaning, do they need to be assigned L-R, 1-2, 3-4, for signal to be output? or are they always being output regaurdless of assigning? i am referring to the Allen & Heath MixWizard 1442 if that means anything. thanx.
