An EQ Question

I'm just beginning to move out of the Omni/Io phase of recording into the realm of better pres and effects,at this point my best pre is a Joemeek VC1Q.Beyond other upgrades in preamps, one of the things I'm looking to do is introduce the use of EQ into the basic setup I have now.My question is,what if any difference is there between using mono EQ across a bus as a kind of psudo master,

Bass and Drum Samples

Understanding this to be an overly broad question, what is the best method to get top quality bass and drum samples?

Is it the sampler route, the soundfont route, the drum machine route,or someting else entirely?

What are the most common hardware devices like keyboards, like kurzweill, emu etc. .What are the various pros and cons in going that route?

Question for Styles Bitchly

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I couldn't believe it when I saw your screen name! I've used that screen name many times over the years! Unfortunately, we're going to have to fight. I'm sorry, I see no other way. Where do you live?
Just kidding of course, but I'm curious as to how you came up with it. Curious in a FRIENDLY way :)

Keyboard straight into DAC?

I'm no a complete newbie, but I know this really sounds like it. Can someone clarify for me: I'm working at a studio where they have a keyboard out (balanced 1/4") patched straight into a patch-bay, then straight into the D/A of the HD interface. The signal always seems quite low and I'm wondering, is that the best impedence matching way to go? No console/pre-amp?
