I've been looking at the 8 track digital recorders from Tascam.. da-98 or something. And the question I have is this. Are those mono tracks? If you want to record stereo sources are we talking 4 tracks?

Can anyone provide any info on Tweed consoles and whether there was some relation to Neve equipment?

My friend is a drummer and I just finished work on a small studio I built. His drums are in the room now and the toms (floor and 12" rack) sound like crap. He has coated Remo heads on top and clear on the bottom. They are very timpany sounding rather than rock sounding. I like a good thud in my toms and just a bit of ring.

I've been a staff engineer for about four years at a commercial studio. I'm starting to get a little bit of work outside of the studio and it's about to get to the point where the two are starting to interfere with each other. The staff position is great because I have a reasonable amount of security in knowing that I will be working on something at some point.

If there was a shootout with a MOTU1296 and a
Lucid 8824, which would still be standing?

On a more serious note, Fletcher, I noticed that you are using DP to record with and also using a LUCID as a front end. Have you checked out the MOTU1296 against the LUCID on any of your sessions?

i've got the TMD8000 with 2x DA-88 and 2x DA-38. Should I connect the wordclock interface, or not. If so, should the DA-88 with syncboard be master. What do I gain using this setup?

I used it since purchase with just the tdif cables and clock coming from dig.signal. never had a problem.

I'm planning to make my home studio soon, and I was wandering, if someone out there is making money from their home studio? How do you deal with the "strangers" in your home sweet home? Any other thoughts/insights about pros and cons to have your own home studio and bring outside people as "customers"? Thanx!
