Acoustic Guitar Pickups

Hello, I am currently recording a project with an acoustic guitar player who really moves a lot and I have been faced with the task of getting a good sound out of a typical transducer style pickup (powered with built in eq etc.) He plays live with a Crate acoustic guitar amp and it sounds quite good. I am either going to record the guitar (line out of amp) mic the guitar amp or both.

Acoustic Guitar Micing

When I listen to the acoustic guitar as I play, the highs stand out the most to me and they sound crisp. Everything sounds like it’s in its proper place. When I record it the mids and lows take over and the highs sound dull. Can this problem be overcome or helped by mic placement? I’ve tried many different arrangements using an SM57 and a Shure Prologue.

Anybody heard Kevin Gilbert's "Shaming of the True"? The ultimate in Ac Gtr sounds IMO. Anybody have a clue on how he did it?

Recording acoustic guitar w/ Mics pointed down from ceiling

Forums

I have treated my room a la fiberglass cloud on ceiling, and left the floor live. I like a bit of liveliness since I mostly record acoustic guitar in ORTF with some omni's. I took Ethan's advice from his faq on this and decided I'd try it with the cheaper rigid fiberglass bass traps on the ceiling with coverage at about 80%.

Recording acoustic guitar

I own the Audio-Technica AT4033 & AT3035 condenser mics coupled w/ Aphex 107 mic preamp. I'm trying to capture some good tones when tracking an acoustic guitar. I've experimented and found that if I place the mic between where the body and neck meet, I get some pretty good tones versus getting either a boomy or boxed tone.
