The term ADAT has come to stand for both the original digital tape machines and also for the lightpipe data transmission system. The ADAT lightpipe has become an audio industry standard for digital data transmission between units other than the original ADAT tape machines.

ADAT tapes to computer-usb-DAW...How to?

So, I have a bunch of ADAT tapes (mostly pairs, making 16 tracks) of unmixed music from the olden days.

I'd like to get these tracks into my computer for mixing on a DAW such as sonar, audition, vegas, etc.

Whats the best way of doing this? I no longer have the ADAT machines, but see that they are dirt cheap on ebay. I remember that they have an optical port...

mLan or ADAT?

OK, I am looking into syncing my DM1000 with a new DAW and can't decide whether to purchase the MY16mLan card and be done with it, or purchase the MY16AT ADAT card as well as an additional RME 9652 ADAT card for my computer and go that route. It seems ADAT is a safer, more stable, and more of an industry standard type route, but is it worth the extra $600?

MOTU 828 users, how do you send sounds out the ADAT out?

i just bought an 828mkII second hand, and until i get the 896 and a new computer, i'm just going to use the 828 as an a/d converter for all my external preamps and amp simulators. but i can't seem to get the 8 anologue ins to go out the lightpipe out, hmmm, and the module didn't come with a manual either, and MOTU wants me to pay 20 bucks to get a manual. .
