channel driven amps vs. . pedals / op-amps
the channel driven amps like the 5150, bogner, hughes and kettner, etc., do these use monolithic op-amps for their distortion channels?
do most (not multi-fx) guitar pedals (say for example boss, MXR, etc.) use discrete op-amps?
also do the orange and hiwatt multi-channel amps use monolithic or discrete op-amps for the distortion channels?

Equipment Questions: Speakers, Amps & Mixers for DJ/PA
Background:I've fallen into the fun world of ProAudio gear. I play Guitar, Keyboards and various other intraments and a month ago bought a Mixer to dump all the sounds into before sending to the PC for recording. The PC Speakers kinda suck, they aren't loud enough for me, thus came on my next project.
Best way to mic/record electric guitar amps in the studio?
Hey all,
Just wanting to hear everyones thoughts on their preffered method of recording heavily distorted electric guitar (lets say a marshall JCM2000 stack) in the studio.
What are your preffered mic options and why?
How do you all get a phat crunchy guitar sound..EQ/layering/panning etc?
Would be good to hear some suggestions as I have a project coming up.
loading guitar amps in studio
Does anybody out there use a Marshall PowerBrake or a THD Hotplate on their guitar cabinets in the studio?
I understand that they both allow for the user to get better (more) gain without all that volume (typical of a 125W amp).
But are they good for recording per say?
Or is it better to mic a guitar cabinet without using these? And why?

Power amps Carvin vs. . QSC
Hi everyone. I'm in the market for live performance (weddings etc.) power amps. Carvin HD 1800 ($349) would be ideal. QSC carries its 2450 which runs for I believe $599. $400 is the most I can spend. How would you campare quality and durability of the two makes? Please elaborate on the subject. Thanks.

Formula for calculating AMPS from Watts?
Does anyone know the formula for calculating total AMPS? For example if you add up all your gear's maximum wattage and say you come to 1,000 watts, how many amps is that?
I know you're also supposed to add 10% of buffer to prevent overloading the circuit.

Recording Valve Amps - Query?
Hi, I read somewhere that with most any valve mic's that the longer you leave em to warm up - the better they sound. I'm talking MUCH better!
and that 3 hours minimum was suggested even overnight if possible.
Now - I was wondering if this is true of Valve Guitar Amps too?
My marshall tsl602 suggests 3 minutes warmup time before playing..
