After reading up on 24-bit recording, I became compelled to re-record my old 4-track cassettes from when I first started with recording, and a few albums I bought on cassette into digital. I recorded them before onto my desktop computer's built in Avance97 audio card, in 16/44.1, but I could tell a noticeable difference between the .wav file and the source tape.

I need to mix down to cassette. Can anyone recommend a stand-alone or rackmount stereo cassette deck? I've had good results with a friend's Sony TC-D5M but I wonder if there isn't anything less expensive. I tried a simple ghetto blaster with Aux Ins and the results were disasterous. I'm trying to increase my productivity. People give me 120 minute cassettes to transfer to CD and I spend two hours twiddling my thumbs waiting for the audio to get recorded on my PC before I can do any work on it. I know that there are high speed dubbing cassette decks out there. What I want is a deck that can send that high pitched garbled fast audio to the outputs.

I have precious 20 year old cassette masters of my first original group, Zythum and I have been planning a 6 CD box set release that will be the first of it's kind. but more on that later.

I wish to transfer these tapes for permanent posperity. I have a Masterlink and I was thinking I would be alright with a few backups, includeing a couple of CD-24s.
