external drive 7200rpm but without Sony oxford chip
are these worth buying
i run nuendo Wavesand some sample libraries . but some guy at guitar centre told me to buy the more expensive(wayyy more) drives with the oxford chip or Pro Tools and maybe some other stuff won't run on it.
is this a marketing ploy? or should i really consider just how important this . .oxford chip really is.
FW-1884 issue - Firewire Controller brand w/ TI chipset
Hi.
I'm pretty familiar with the picky FW-1884 and it's need for a FW controller with a TI chipset.
It seems that the Belkin uses the TI chipset. Does anyone know if that's a safe buy, or is there another brand that I should be checking out?
Thanks,

More powerful chips for HD Accell soon?
HI,
A dealer told me that more powerful chips bundled in the new generation of Accel cards are coming in close future, although the interfaces would stay the same.
Any rumour about it?
See, if Mix Systems lifetime was between 1998/2003
so, HD + HD Accel would be something like 2003/2007?
Thanks

Firepod doesn't work with NEC chipsets--sold by Best Buy,etc
Just an FYI to anyone looking into buying a Firepod that uses Windows...
CHECK YOUR FIREWIRE CHIPSET SETTINGS by going into My Computer, right click and select Properties. Look for the firewire card, and verify says either "TI" or "VIA" for the chipset.
If it says "NEC" based or anything involving "NEC", the firepod will most likely not work.
NEW Macbook pro is here! Powerbook with Intel chips. .
It looks like this has 2 processors and that makes it 4 times faster than the newest Powerbook 1.67! Did I make a mistake in buying a Powerbook 1.67 recently?
Is the cost going to go down for a powerbook with Intel chip
Would Intel chips reduce the price of Macs? If yes, by how much? Does anybody have an idea?
Also, is the Apple care plan ($350 or so) worth it especially since there's all these boards to help you out in case of problems?
