Research on compressors & limiters for classical recordings

Forums

Hi. I'm an enthusiastic amateur, learning as i go. I have been recording school concerts and orchestras in large cathedrals and churches. Nearly all the advice and tutorials around the use of compression and limiters seem to be aimed at bands with drums, guitars, bass etc etc.

Entry Level Mics for recitals/classical ?

Forums

Hi, I am always interested in recording for solo recitals / solo concerts untill recently I have the opportunity.

Usually the recording situation will be a soloist + a accompaniment.( violin + piano, clarinet + piano, french horn + piano,etc...)

As you can see the instruments range is quite large, so i need something that i versatile.

New to Classical Recording...

Hello!

I have a gig coming up recording a Grand Piano, Clarinet, Violin, Cello and Soprano playing a 12 minute classical piece on location in a small hall. I don't have a lot of experience recording classical music, and am wondering how best to approach the recording.

The stage is 4 meters deep, and about 12 meters wide.

Equipment recommendation for small-medium sized classical recordings

Hi,

I'm new to all of this.

I'm looking to record some classical concerts in high quality.

I'm about to buy a Sony PCM-D50 as this seems to be about the best quality-wise in my current price range, and I'll be recording at 24 bit 96kHz (and playing them back on my high end audiophile hifi).
