How to get rid of fuzzy guitar distortion
Hey, I don't know if this has been asked before, I couldn't find it, so anyway..
I've been recording guitars for a while now, but when it comes to distortion, or overdrived guitars my sound always seems to become a big fuzzy mass of distorted guitars without definition or whatsoever. I doubletrack most of my guitars, and most of the time I record with 2 mics.

Mastering Distorted Guitars and Crackling
Ok, this is a problem I seem to have often. The issue is basically this, my mixes sound fine. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with them. Everything seems to sound clean and glitch free. Then I start messing around with mastering. Now if I am doing something clean with like acoustic guitars or a more clean sounding guitar then I can get a good sounding master.

PC Distortion w/wma
For regular listening I encode my CD collection in WMA lossless. It might not be perfectly transparant to the origenal disk, but its really close.
In Media player things usually sound ok. For fun I slammed the 31 hz bar in Media player to test a pair of monitors I built, and then left it on by mistake (phone rang), and left the studio for a week.

Getting Odd Distortion
I'm running Pro Tools LE into a Mac G5. I use an ISA 428 and a vmp 4000e as preamps. The mics are C 414s and MD 421s. The cables are Mogami. The preferred cola is Dr. Pibb.

Recording Distortion
My band recently recorded an album. I used my fender deluxe 2-12 with a tonebone hot british distortion pedal. I really like this sound and to me, it sounds just like a marshall. Now, I spent a lot of time finding that right tone, however when it is recorded, the sound is very different. On certain tracks it sounds very boxy and at other times it does not have that crunchy gain.

ALSO I AHVE A CLIENT WHO HAS A PIANO WHICH SEEMS TO DISTORT EVEN AT LOW END RECORDING. I HAVE REPLACED CABLES AND STILL BOTH OF THESE KEEP OCCURRING. I AM RUNNING PROTOOLS 6.4 WITH NO PHANTOM POWER ON FOR PROTOOLS.

Distortion On Piano Track
How can I get rid of the distortion on the opening bars of this track.
The track has not been eq'ed and I want to,if possible, preserve the existing tone, whilst removing the crackle. The track barely peaks at -6 on the meters, so I dont believe its clipping. I hope I have provided enough info and would greatly appreciate any help wth this.
Thanks in advance

Vocal Distortion on the M-Audio Mobile Pre
Hi.. I just purchased an M-Audio Mobile pre, and having some issues recording vocals. I am using the live 4.0 that came with the hardware (until I purchase something better), and my setup is straightforward. My Guitar-mic to the mobile pre to my computer via usb. No mixers, no nothing. I am able to record guitar tracks perfectly.
