Compress vs. Limit Into DAW?
Hi all,
Do you compress your audio signals before going into your DAW? Or limit?
I have an Aphex Expressor and use it to compress signals going into my DAW. But it occurs to me that it might be better to use the outboard Expressor merely for limiting (defeating much of its features) and then rely on plugins for non-destructive compression in-DAW. Is this a good idea?

Trying to pick a new Board for DAW - Help
Right now I'm running through two Behringer xenyx2442fx's ( 1 drums only with a send to the main board for monitoring) before you ask, I do it so I can record an entire band at once - including live drums - and monitor with no latency (from the boards) The directs are then sent to a Tascam US1641 (which also has pre' s) and I am running Cubase LE4 for now.

recording tricks of 1980's, MPC 60 sync fireface 800 to DAW vocals and guitar
Man do I need help here. I've tried to get used to using keyboards for creating drum track and I can't stand how slow and lame it is. I have excellent sounds, but the whole keyboard midi drum creation sucks to me. I am by no means a novice at programming. I earned a serious living in the 80's programming drums using Linn and MPC 60's.
Advice on DAW software (WAV editing/mixing) to run on Win-7 x64 ?
Hello,
I've been using with very great satisfaction Syntrillium CoolEdit 2000 for a long time, but now that for other reasons I changed my hardware platform and adopted Windows-7 x64, this software is not compatible any more.
Though I could run it with the "XP-Mode" virtualization, I'd prefer to direct myself to a newer software.
Can anybody help on choice for DAW software for Win-7 x64 ?

DAW's and the Internet
Just curious how most people get their updates and what not for their DAW's if technically they should never touch the net. I usually just turn my virus protection on, plugin my dsl cable, get what I need to as quickly as possible, get off, unplug the dsl cable, and turn off virus protection.

Help with recording to DAW?
I've been getting pretty lately busy so if I'm not recording beats I should be doing something else which leaves no time for me to actually read about it and learn. I'm using an Alesis MultiMix8 USB mixer with an MPC1000 and MX1 hooked up to it and of course sound comes out when I'm playing it through my monitors but I can't get my DAW to recognize it so it could record them.

DAW Laptop, think I'm on to a winner, what do ya reckon?
Hey all, I'm going travelling and want to take my recording studio with me. I've spent all week researching laptops that can handle my audio gear, so much so, that my brain is starting to melt. I'm not that clued up on all the techy bits of a pc but read up a bit about processers and stuff and have gone a bit cross eyed. Anyway, for portability and performance etc.
