Monitor noise with certain DAWs
Right now I only have demo versions or the E-MU versions of DAWs since I cannot afford full versions and really enjoy using more than one.
I recently picked up an external monitor (screen) to use from my laptop to create some much needed workspace (my laptop is 14.1" :()

to DAW or not Daw, that is the question.
I have ran the same production studio for a dozen years. 10 years ago we booted our unreliable 2" 3M machine and replaced it with a RADAR. We will have to move on soon due to the lack of efficient back-up and reliability. The new RADARs have better back-up systems, use wav files for DAW combatability, and dual record drives to take care of these issues. We are also considering Pro-Tools.

DAW Converter Set-up & sound card
Hey all,
Forgive my ignorance. I'm used to my old Pro Tools hardware and learning new things with PC's.
What ever AD/DA converter I go with, like Apogee, CRane Song, Larvy, RME etc, do I need a sound card still installed in the PC ( windows XP tower)? or, do the higher end converters, or one in particular replace the need of the sound card?

New recommedation list for 2009 DAW?
Thanks to the pros on this site, in 2007, I built a DAW that could not be any more powerful. I did a lot of research to make sure what I bought was rock solid for audio (and not just a loaded gaming machine).

Stand-alone DAW to Computer - Make any sense?
Greetings all,
Just joined because I thought I could get some good advice on a recording setup I'm contemplating. I have a stand-alone Yamaha AW2816 Digital Audio Workstation which is OK, but I don't care for the mixdown and CD Burn process. I was thinking about getting an audio interface for my G4 Mac Mini and using the Yamaha to record the tracks, then mixdown to the computer.

Question about preamp mono switch vs. switching inside a DAW
I have Cubase LE4, which strangely does not have a mono control. I am eyeing a replacement preamp to add to my monitoring that has a built in mono switch. Will this solve my problem?
Help on converters & DAW...
Wasn’t sure where to post this…
I used a friends RME hammerfall card & ADI-8 DS 6+ years back. We used it with s/mux through lightpipe to record everything at 24/96. I think I remember having 2-buses in Nuendo through the ADI-8 at 24/96.
