Micing an electric guitar amp using an SM58

Forums

Ok, so, I'm attempting to record some guitar tracks onto a Zoom H4 4 track recorder. The recorder has 2 mic inputs. I have 1, possibly 2 sm58s available to me, and I just took the capsule off the mic, and placed it on an angle facing the amp. The recorder also has 2 built in condenser mic's in an XY pattern, if that would be better.

Best way to mic/record electric guitar amps in the studio?

Forums

Hey all,

Just wanting to hear everyones thoughts on their preffered method of recording heavily distorted electric guitar (lets say a marshall JCM2000 stack) in the studio.

What are your preffered mic options and why?

How do you all get a phat crunchy guitar sound..EQ/layering/panning etc?

Would be good to hear some suggestions as I have a project coming up.

recording / gigging with acoustic electric bass

hi all

what is the best way to record an acoustic electric bass (by that i don't mean a standup bass, i mean one of those aria acoustic basses that looks like a big electric guitar, but with a pickup inside somewhere) -- go directly in to the mixer from the pickup, or do you need to DI first? or is it still best to plug it into an amp and mic the amp?

Micing Electric Guitar Amp!

Forums

So ive heard that IF you mic up the amp of your guitar that it will sound better than if you just plug into into you 1/4 input jack. I really dont get how that could make it sound better. If you just plug a guitar in normally wouldnt it be better becasue there is less un wanted noise getting in?

Any ways i want to try it and see if i can get a cool sound.
