I was going to get the Folcrom last year but it didn't work out, but I'm still thinking about it. I'm wondering if anyone has ever used one together with a MixDream or Dangerous 2-bus for added flavour?

I'm thinking it would be very cool to use it on a few stems already OTB or the 2-bus heading back ITB.

I would like to hear what others have to say about analog summing. I'm currently nearing the end of the mixdown stage for a very prestigious Latin project.

We started the mixing on an SSL console, but discovered that ITB (in-the-box) mixing sounded much better after comparison. I mean, many degrees better.

Here is the deal, I am picking up a very nice 8516b on monday, the rest of my set up is saffire pro 40, digimax fs, la 610 in to pro tools, 2-bus lt and monitor st on the other end.

Never got into consoles, always used rack pres, but since I am now getting into the idea of tape, I was thinking about picking one up I found for 350. Question is, where would you rate the pre's on this, and would you ever consider using this to sum?

I'm looking for a professional that is experienced in Analog Recording to point me in
the right direction for a 16 channel mixer and 16 track tape machine.
My Budget is variable, I'd like to know a few price range options, I defiantly don't want to spend more that a few thousand.

What preamp's do you favour most with the Folcrom ?

I am teaching in a sprawling university "recording industry" program that is understaffed, budget crisis blah blah...
I have been teaching business but now the production component needs assistance, univ won't hire more teachers...

the one production guy who is there is running everything ADD and DDD, new Avid c24 mixer etc.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a very analog guy. I do almost all of my processing OTB. I do think that a console adds a lot to the sound and if the summing circuit has something special about it it would color the sound like any other analog unit.

Is it possible to use outboard gear (like compressors, equalizers, etc.) with a DAW? If so, exactly how does one do this?
