Behringer Xenyx 502 Mixer Hiss..

hi. ive been recording vocals for years simply plugging in my microphone to the back of my sound cards input. crude perhaps but it has worked mostly fine. I'm somewhat aware that having a mixer/preamp is supposed to enhance your signal or clear it up somewhat (i think, right?) so recently i picked up one of these xenyx 502s. it hisses. it sucks.

Compressors and Filters (Plus a low hiss)

I have a low-end home studio that I am building (in my garage), and am looking for a decent compressor to add to my collection of equipment. Unfortunately, I am painfully ignorant when it comes to audio compression, gates, and filters. I record mostly vocals, and unfortunately my recordings are ugly uncompressed audio and has a slight hiss to it.

lots of hiss in my recordings, Sonar x1 Alesis 8 usb

hey everyone, I'm using an Alesis multimix 8 usb mixer into my Sonar x1 daw, windows 7. Everytime i record something through the mixer i get a lot of high pitched unwanted noise/hiss. The sound of the instrument (bass) is decent, but i cant seem to get rid of this hiss. any suggestions? any help or comments would be GREATLY appreciated.

Best setup to get my Shure SM58 to PC *WITHOUT* hissing/noise?

Basically, I have a Shure SM58 attached to a home-made XLR-->1/4 Adapter-->1/8 Jack going into a SB Audigy (yes, the card sucks, I know)... The recordings sound clear and crisp (when I boost the recording a whole 60%) but then you get audible noise/static when the backing track is muted...

how much hiss can be fixed?

hey guys I have been working on a particular project for a long time now, and some of the stuff being recorded at home, 2 of the more acoustic songs have a good amount of hiss.

while I was at the studio the engineer really wanted me to try and retract the guitars with a better signal, but no matter what I can't seem to capture the same vibe as the originals with hiss.
