Software instruments or keyboard?

I am putting together a home studio for myself and wondering what the pros and cons are of the two options. My concern is latency when I'm tracking. I am only looking for basicallytraditional type sounds(pianos, bass, percussion). The keyboard I have now has pretty weak piano samples(Korg n264). If I go the software route, I will use it as a controller.

Muddy recording/losing instruments in the mix

Hi guys,

First off, I'm new to this forum, and I'm also new to recording in general. I'm a far better songwriter and guitar player than recording engineer.

My setup is as follows:
- Windows 2000 with Cool Edit Pro 2.0
- Tascam US-122 USB audio interface
- Shure Beta58 and Sennheiser Evolution mics
- AKG K-101 headphones

recording multiple instruments simultainiously but seperat

I've been trying to record drums and guitar simultainiously but on seperate tracks. Is it the software capabilities [acid pro] or am I just setup wrong? I've tried the guitars through one sound card and my mixer for my drums through another but i think my computer only reads one at a time,is there a setting?

Do VST Instruments require actual MIDI Hardware?

Hello Everyone!
I am total newbee in digital mixing and will appreciate your patience with me. I was reading Nuendo2.0 and CubaseSX 1 manuals and they are not mentioning that actual hardware should be connected to VST host to utilize those VST's. Is there any chance to route the loop sample in to VST instrument for further manipulations within computer keyboard?
