I've been researching on microphone preamps quite a bit, and wondering whether upgrading to dedicated outboard preamps would really help the sound quality. It can be quite a heavy investment, so I'd like to be really sure before taking the plunge.

THE DEAL IS. I have been using an octopre to get into Pro Tools until now through optical lightpipe. The ADAT card fried on the darn thing. Im looking to find the best way to get into Pro Tools through Pro Tools from external preamps. I dont need the device to have preamps in it, I have plenty of nice pres I just need analog line level conversion into ADAT lightpipe.

Ill be using it with a iMac and Cubase 6.
This will be my main Recording interface, will be used with external preamps for tracking "rock" drums, guitar, vocals, exclusively in my home studio.
I know the feature differences between the two, my question is on the audio quality, does one have better conversion quality or Pres?

i'm happy user of SSL x desk but i need 8 additional sub groups. X desk has 16 channels totally (8 line inputs and 8 alternate cue mix channels) 8 inserts and 8 direct outs. my dream is to build or use (modify SSL x desk?) some existing features to get 8 summing sub groups. is that possible?

Hi guys. In the very near future I'm gonna finally break the chain and get a Digital Audio Workstation. (yay) Its all going to be on a shoelace beginning which is fine since I'm going to have to school myself in this platform. Which ever its going to be.

I have a Mackie 32x8 8 bus mixing console in my shop for repair.

On 3 channels the lower part (HI and LO EQ) of the 7 EQ pots aren't working at all. And on another channel any manipulation of both the EQ level pots results in a high volume fixed tone.

Anyone had the same issue before? And knows how to fix it?

Hi kids. Uncle Dogg purchased a couple of used mics last night and I want to tell you about them and ask if anyone else has used this model or even seen one. .These are Audio-Technica ATM5R's. A small handheld style condenser, an SDC for sure, with a pop screen and a mini XLR connector. I had heard about these several years ago and was always curious since the report I got was sterling.

i am using a baby blue bottle for recording vocals and sm57/md421 for guitar cabs

if i can't have an api3124 ... whats a nice preamp for around $750-1000. most importantly for vocals and electric guitars

any suggestions?
