allright. I'm about to record drums and stuff. i dont have any actuall recording gear besided the mixer that the mic is going to before the pc. its a mx802a Behringer mixer. i have a PG52 about and inch

When I try to get the kick and the clap to work together it just sounds as the clap is placed above the kick..
I want the kick and clap to be like one sound, not two sounds placed above eachother...
On modern dance music songs the kick and clap sounds like one sound..

after some advice ( arent we all!).

kinda lame i guess. has anyone heard the new green day album? the drums are amazing on it. anyways, the kick has this nice punch to it. can someone give me some advice on placement of the mic in relation to to the head to get a nice fast powerful sound like that on the new green day CD. and also the difference of taking of the head while recording and or removing the pillow.

I'm selling my Shure PG mic kit on ebay for 220 and I'm looking for an upgrade. I've bought two SM-57s previously and all i need are good overheads and a quality kick drum mic. Any suggestions? I know this is such a common post to ask for recommendations for mics but I figure you guys have definite favorites.

I'm pretty much a newbie with recording, and I have this problem with every kick drum. .

ok here's what i've got to sound the best(or most like other production out there)

KICK- goes these plugins in this sequence:

1. EQ (notching bad frequencies out, low/highshelving for thump)

2. Gate (obviously, isolating the kick)

3. COMPRESSOR (2-1 ratio, threshold with gain reduction down about 10db, attack is 23ms release is 120 ms and hard-knee.

I've been trying to get a good sound out of a kick drum that didn't have a hole in the front skin. The drum was well tuned and sound okay in the studio, altough there was a lot of ringing in it. Anyway, here's the setup i've had...

A bit of a last-minute question: we'll be recording the day after tomorrow and we were wondering about max kickdrum SPL-levels.

In other words, can a condenser mic specified at 142dB SPL max
(0.5% THD, 1kHz, 10dB pad engaged) be safely used in, or in front of a kick ?

Either the D112 or the Shure Beta 59? Or is it the 56? Opinions on this one?
