Kick drum vs. . Bass
I usually, have the kickdrum on the lower frequency spectrum of the song, then the bass etc...like in most rock/pop music. I've do this very well. But lately I've been listening to some recordings were the bass is lower, and then is the kick drum, like the last U2 record. And I was wondering how do you get a clear bass and kick this way, any techniques? I'd like some imput on this.

using a sampled kick for pop
How many ever use a sampled kick or snar (pop and alike) instead of the real thing?
I've had a few battles over this saying they can tell the difference every time. I sent a track out to someone (we all respect) and they couldn't tell the difference, and he didn't believe me.

saving terrible kick sounds.
here's my problem: i'm mixing this thingie recorded by someone else [mostly], and the kick SUCKS. no definition, just a big mess on the low end. D112, but still sucky.

bass drum THUD
Maybe just an ignorant question, but how do the "pros" get that full thud from the recorded kick? i can't seem to get that quality that you always hear on the radio. it seems to blend in so well, yet still stand out. I record mainly rock/punk, alternative, etc. even heavy compression, mad EQing, doubling, or various effects don't seem to do the trick.

Axis kick drum pedals
Anyone tried those? I know Igor Cavalera from Sepultura uses two for his double kick setup... I playied in his kit once and I kinda liked... but you really need to get used to it...
Any other comments?

Bass Drum Pedals
So many choices...
I am buying a new kit and am not sure which kick pedal to buy. I bought a ludwig classic birch 20" kick. Am I better off with a DW ?000 pedal over a nice ludwig? What do you think? What do you use?
Thanks!

Improving rousy sounding kick
It's a Pearl kick, maple shell and a hole in the front head. Sounds like a ruler on a shoe box! Felt reversible beater.
Have tried an ATM25, MD421 inside and a V67 about 2' out in front.
Any ideas on how to make this thing sound like a bass drum?
Thanks
Wayne
