Just for Kicks..

I'm in the early stage of mixing my first track to completion. I have a violin, strings, kicks, snares, hh's and bass. It's harder than I thought to mix all these things together just starting out. Anyhow I've got everything mixed fine and sound levels where I want them except for that damn kick. I'm using Floops and I don't really have too much memory so some effects lag me down way too much.

Timbaland kick drum sound

On Justin Timberlakes "Cry Me A River" (produced by Timbaland) u can hear this special base drum timbaland always uses. it sounds nice n soft. somehow in the background but got just the right punch to still be a base drum... i tried so much on mine... short halls... eqs...hard compression...all ... i didn't get close to this...

anyone knows how to get a sound like this?

Ducking bass/kick?

How often (often as in the meta-world of "mixing music in general, as a whole") is the bassline ducked behind the kick?

I would imagine that no matter the sound/genre/style it happens more often than not to control the low freqs without losing punch.

Any information on what situations really call for it are appreciated.

Avalon kicks *ss on service!

I cant believe this! I buy this 737 (which is a killer unit, trying to buy another..) from Nashville USED, pop it in my rack and start
fudging around with a signal and all of a sudden...sctratch...crack..pop..fluffzzzzz (no, I did not eat beans)dreaded scratchy pot syndrome. I could not really complain because I got it at a great price, so I contact Avalon

Plastic heads for 32" bass drum

Hello again,
Can anyone recommend any promising plastic heads for a 32" birch bass drum?
I have FiberSkyn, and it's a disaster.
I also have some nice Kalfo calf heads coming, which are by far my preferred choice.
Nonetheless, weather does not always permit, so for the road in the rainy season I'm so far looking at Pinstripes and Remo coated white heads.
