Logic Express: help with FX for kick drums needed
I'm trying to get a nice, thumpy kick drum sound for an electronica-style project. I'm doing the programming in Logic as a MIDI track, the instrument/audio object being a SoundFont with lots of kick drum samples that I made. I have a lot of difficulty in getting it right, so I hope some of you can help me out.

Bass drum sound. . .
I currently own a Gretsch Birch kit and Taye Basswood/Birch kit. I use a Shure Beta 52. My bass drum sounds awesome acoustically (deep, warm, punchy), but when I mic it, I'm not getting the same sound out of the speakers. The sound is real open and too sustained. It has the depth, but not the punchy sound I'm looking for. I'm not running any EQ on the kick. Will that make a big difference?

Make the kick drum sound good
How do you make the kick drum kick ass?
Drum--tuning---Mic--pre--recording--mixing--eq---compression--gating. Any other special stuff.
Just want to get a thread going on recording and mixing the kick drum.

Question about building a bass drum tunnel to record
Ive seen that in many pro studios the engineer removes the fron bass drum head of the kick drum and puts a second kick drum and drapes it with a heavy blankets and puts a second mic in front of the 2nd kick. I wanted to know two things...
Cad kick mic close to AKG or Shure?
I have a friend who own the 7 piece mic kit.
He's not any other drummer, he took part at the Montreal DrumFest 2004
He said he likes the Shures or AKG but CAD are good ones 2.
did you ever tried one?
the price range vs quality seems good to me 45$ not 199.99$ as Shure or AKG.
I own a 421 i just love it.
what you think about all this?

differentiating the bass drum from the bass guitar
What's the best way to master the bass drum track to make it sound different from the bass? And why is the bass i record, which i record directly, sound blurry and muddy and each note is not precise?
Looking for versatile kick drum mic
I am looking for suggestions for a versatile kick drum mic. Something that can get a tight rock/funk sound on a 22", and get an open jazz sound on an 18". Any recommendations? Considering Audix D6, AKG D112, Shure Beta 52.
Any comments on these, or other mic.s would be appreciated.

kick drum triggering
Hi, what are the different ways to record a seperate triggered kick drum track? Do I need a drum module to pick a kick drum sound from, or can I use a sampled kick drum sound of the band's.

Earthworks Kickpad
Anybody use or own one of these babies? I got a catalog from Full Compass that had an ad for a "Kickpad" made by Earthworks. I also had a free demo disc of this little guy, mailed to me from Earthworks. It sounds AWESOME on the demo!
But I wanted to know if anybody has anything to add about it.
