Kick without a hole.
Alright. this saturday will be the first time recording a kick without a hole in the front head. It's a custom DW kit with beautiful new heads with a fantastic drummer hitting them.
The sound they are going for is along the lines of the Mars Volta but heavier. He doesn't want to cut a hole in the front head, and he doesn't want to remove the head either.

analog kick pedal with midi kick pad
I wanted some comments on how to go about using an acoustic drum set, but replacing the kick drum with a trigger pedal.
Now the real thing here is...I need it to be a double bass setup for the heavy music as well.
midi kick pads? And which one? Or what else is good for this?

Kick drum in mastering
I've done some mixes in our studio and just to get a general idea of a 'mastered' sound, i've run them through a bunch of TRacks presets. Now I know most aren't fond of TRacks around here. But, I just wanted to get a general idea.

how do I make my kicks stand out?
I've heard things about using compression and changing attack on kicks to make them stand out more.

Mixing snare and bass drum db
Im in the process of mastering some drum tracks and have one quick question:
while mixing the snare and bass drum,is it advisable to have the bass drum set at a lower db level, and let the bass guitar bring the lower freq,s into the mix? :?
