Live board or recording console?

Anybody know what the difference in a live board verses a recording console is?
Like for instance Mackie boards are marketed as that they are live and for recording use. And then the Midas series boards are called live boards?
Is it just that one company designs something and then after proving themselves in the market place that it becomes one or the other?

Live w/ Blumlein tonite

Did my first live broadcast / recording with a Blumlein pair in our smallish studio (18x28) of a local folk group. Overall, things in the control room sounded pretty good, but there seemed to be a bit of a hole in the middle.

I'll grab the tracks and take them home and listen in a much better environment and see how the technique worked. I used a pair of AT4050's.

Cleaning up live recordings

A mate of mine has given me some recordings of his band that were done while they were playing live. He seems to think that because I have a few music programs on my computer that I can make them sound like they were recorded in a studio! I said "err no" but I hope I can do something to them to improve the quality ;) They are just general rock type songs.

Live choral recording on a tight budget

My choir is preparing for a spring concert, and I - as the hifi nut around - have been assigned the task of researching how to do a decent recording of the event. We are on an extremely tight budget (I couldn't even get a figure from our head of finances) - so we are really talking next step up from nothing.
