About MAckie 8 bus

Hi everyone. What do you think about a Mackie 16/24/32*8bus for recording. What about the preamps? What would you do in the following situation:

Would you use the 8 bus preamps into a digi 002 for recording...

or

Would you get a vlz(or similar/cheaper) mixer to skip its preamps, use external preamps and use the mixer for monitoring only?

thanks

PROTOOLS AND MACKIE ONYX

Increasing fidelity and system fliexibility is the need of the hour.

My work and my investment requires me to be capable of handling the following audio situations.

1. Studio recording with 16 simultaneos tracks at 16 bit 44.1 Khz.

2. Live recording with 16 simultaneous tracks preferably thru a compact source like a Firewire into a laptop.

Quality of converters on Mackie d8b mixer

Could anyone tell me what is the sound quality of the converters on Mackie d8b console? I could get one cheap but it's not about the money.. I don't wanna get something with converters sounding much worse than a decent ouboard converter. I would buy RME 5692 card with 3 ADAT interfaces and use d8b as a mixer/converter going to either nuendo 2 or Cubase sx3.

Mackie HR824 vs. . Genelec 8040

Hope Im not starting any beef w/ this topic!

Its probably been asked but I didn't find anything on it. So Im askin...

Has any1 compared these 2 and Im wanna from a hip hop point of view, inwhich this is the type of music I produce and mix.

I kno ur gonna say..."Go and listen 2 them urself!" I would if u lend me the $ to check them both in my studio.
