Will I be able to go into a studio with .aif files needing to be mastered & have no problems?. . how do I find out what studios can do it? Are most studios compatible with Cubase? Does this make sense? .

Well listen to some new pop produktions and I really ask my self why it sounds like that.
I got the feeling sometimes that the playback is extra mastered and the voice extra too.

Im making a mixed tape, and I'm using other producers mastered beats..what I'm wondering is after recording the vocals and all the other sounds and what nots that I track later. should I compress of or eq the mixdown? It seems to me that this will effect the quality of the beat.

help is appreciated

What volume or level should my mixes be at, before I send them to be mastered? Should the mix reach a certain level or should the mastering engineer worry about compensating for the low or even high level.

Hey guys, here is a question for all you M.E.'s out there. I just had one of my clients CD's mastered at one of the most reputable places in town. I've used this company several times before BUT this time instead of using the main ME we used another guy that works there now. (he of course was highly recomended) He did a great job at mastering but perhaps too good?

The source was complex... about 48 audio tracks with files in 16bit
and 24bit resolution...bit conversation troubles... etc...

However work is done.

Besides the albums mentioned on Bob Katz's site (http://www.digido.com) what are some really well done or really BADLY done albums that people are listening to or staying away from for the total content including mastering? I know for example that the Red Hot Chili Peppers album "Californication" is probably the loudest CD ever done.

Right i've just finished mastering some tracks on my computer using soundforge. The process was 16 track -> computer -> normalise -> compression and limiting bringing the overall volume up to a steady 0.0 decibels. However on putting the files onto CD, it is noticebly quieter than other CDs.

i love collecting CDs since i was a teener :) ...Does it follow that CDs labeled as "remastered" was remixed then mastered again? or is it the same old mix just remastered?. i have so many CDs which are now out again with the "remastered" copy :( TIA
