The VU meter
I have just begun my venture into the recording world and have many questions without answers. First and foremost could someone explain the reasoning behind the VU meter that reads in negative decibels? I understand the concept of decibels as being a logarithmic scale to simplify the hearing process but why use a negative scale in recording . . . am I missing something?

Radio shack SPL meter
Folks,
there were a number of very interesting posts that talked about the use of the analog Radio Shack SPL/dB meter to get an idea what kind of frequency response one is getting in their control room. The gadget is rather inexpensive so I went for it and gave it a go.

Hello everyone!
I've worked several times with a roland vm series console but with a vm link cable(AES/EBU)5 meters long. The manual says that the vm processor can be placed 200 meters away from the console. Is there anyone that had tried it, and can post the results here?
THANKS

Phase correlation meter
Anybody know of a decent phase meter program that can be used for checking .wav files?
It would be nice to be able to play a .wav file from the HD and have a phase program display the results in real time.
BTW - I have one already, but it only works on the soundcard INPUTS.
Thanks.

meter bridge, how and why?
how necessary is it and why?
I'm using the dm24 along with Sonar and has metering, but I see it also can add a meter bridge.
being very green to all this ain't helping me much...
I mean I can grasp the initial concept but...
thanks again

2 VU meters in a box?
Where can I get a powered box with 2 VUs and balanced +4 inputs? I don't expect any company to really make this but maybe it is easy to build. Any techs out there?

Analog or digital spl meter
Could someone tell me which of the two would work best for someone who would basically be using it to check monitoring levels?

VU meters & buffer amps?
Can anyone recommend a good resource on the need to provide buffer amps (or "make-up gain") when connecting a VU meter somewhere along an audio signal path? To the ignorant among us (me), it all seems so arbitrary; in some cases a VU meter appears to be just hung off existing circuitry. In other cases, a single VU meter is fed by a huge "buffer amp module" that serves no other purpose.

saving synth patches/parameters for songs...
How would you recommend saving synth settings for synths with no actual "song" mode? I am currently using a Roland MC-505, a Korg Triton Rack, an Akai MPC2000xl, and an Alesis Quadrasynth. On the 505, I can basically save every parameter and patch as a pattern, even though I'm using the MPC as my sequencer.
