Overhead piano mics
I am in the market for a different pair of overhead piano mic's, to use for FIELD RECORDING ie concerts etc.. I record acoustic piano jazz trio's on location. I am looking at Gefell, Josephsons or Beyer.
Would any of you have sound samples or recordings using these mic's on a grand piano?

Oxford Dynamics and EQ plugins
Oxford Dynamics and EQ.
Compared against anything UAD offers, which I have, are they worth 2 to 2.5X ? 550 for the EQ seems pretty pricey, especially with no demo for me to try AFAIK (gave all the demo's a once over about 6 months ago), same with dynamics. Then again I have a buttload of compressors available to me with UAD and 3 cards to spare, but only 3 EQ's.

Buying Used Mics
Hi all.
I am close to buying 2x U87 (old ones) and 2x Sennheiser 421. They are used, from a former pro-studio sale, reputable dealer. (£700 and £160 each respectively).
I've never bought second-hand mics before; is there anything I should specifically look out for and to avoid?

Does Full Compass ship to canada? (425$ each)

overheads mics
I'm in the market for some budget overheads mics. Looking to spend no more than $500 for the pair. They'll be used mainly for rock and blues music. I've got my eye on a pair of the Shinybox 23C's but the figure-8 pattern worries me cause my drum room ceiling is only 7.5' (2.28m). Do you think I could get away with it if the ceiling is treated for early reflections?

recording vocals with two mics at a time.
hey guys... how about if two mics are used to record a vocals... like mics of two different types... if you are like not in budget... suppose Sm58 for a bit body and low... and another condenser for much clearer response and then blend the vocals in together... how would that go... can anyone... wanna talk more abt this

ribbon mics for mains?
I have a friend/ engineer who wants to try this on a symphony orch in a Decca Tree configuration. He is, I think, new to classical recording. I am not, but I have little experience with ribbons in classical situations as mains- mostly because I am such a fan of top end that I prefer condensor's sound over anything 'duller'.

Compact versions of mics
Hello all
I was wondering about mid sized mics. The DPAs that look like a capsule with a wire out the back (not the really tiny ones) and the Schoeps CCM compact mics spring to mind. Does anyone here think that these mics are compromised for the sake of size?
Cheers
John

Lauten Audio Tube Mics
Does anyone have any info on Lauten Audio Tube Mics? Supposedly they are making some killer tube cardioids for dirt cheap.
