mixing

A question about some mixing/interface consoles.

Is there a console or an interface that has faders on each channel that you recorded that you can adjust the level of the highs and lows? or is there just a fader for volume? Because i know you can get an interface like the M-Audio project mix that has the auto fades. But is there something that i can hook up to my pc that alows me to do that too, also not owning any pro=tools gear.

Here it is in black and white "I like the tone of reasons scream distortion module". There I said it, maybe its a bit embarassing, but its a guilty pleasure I have. I sample my drums from Pro Tools and import them as .wav files into reason to eff them up ALOT. Did i mention i do this to live drums that my drummer plays? I think i also failed to mention its multi tracked drums i do this too.

hip hop mixing

For the past few months I've been mixing hip hop for some friends of mine. i have experience mostly with rock so i referenced quite a few brand new, mainstream hip hop albums. This is where my questions lie:

1. It seems as though almost all( if not all ) of the instrumentation/vocals are panned dead center, w/ the exception of chorus background vocals. Am I wrong?

HELP mixing the SNARE!

Everytime I record the drums, I always get this nasty ring coming out of the snare, and whenever I mix, it's always difficult to get the right EQ settings to remove this "ring." If someone could please help me with this issue, I'd greatly appreciate it!

PS. I used two SM57's on the snare and they're placed on the top and bottom.

Thank you!
