Description

Mid-side processing takes a left/right stereo signal and breaks it up into two separate layers: Mid and Side. Mid-side processing is a highly effective way of making adjustments to the spacialization of a mix or master to make your mix sound full and wide.

Mid-side

A coincident-pair stereo microphone technique using a forward-facing unidirectional, omnidirectional, or bidirectional mic and a side-facing bidirectional mic. The microphone signals are summed and differenced to produce right- and left-channel signals.

SPL M/S Master

Forums

Here is a press release that I just published. I find it especially interesting and timely because I am really jacked up over OTB summing. Now this has just been released.

SPL introduces a new powerful analog tool that can manage M/S signal separation and integrate external processors seamlessly

Maybe some of you might want to chat about this here.

Noticed something about mid/side

I suppose this may be something that is obvious to most people, but I didn't think of it in advance, so I thought I would start a thread. As I mentioned in another thread, I've been recording very soft acoustic guitar in M/S with Beyer 160/130 ribbons. I decided to try recording a bit closer - moved in to about 12 inches.
