M/S Compression/Mastering/In The Box
I am looking for a definite routing scheme to use in a mastering situation.
I have one stereo track with the song loaded onto the track.
This track is output to the Master.

M/S micing: substitution of bi-directional mic?
I've been wanting to experiment more with the Mid-Side technique, but I don't own a bi-directional / figure-8 microphone. Would I get comparable results standing in two identical cardioid LDCs for the side mic? Some provocations:
m/s decoder
sorry to repeat this question from another thread, but i'd really like to know...
is there any stand alone m/s encoder in the market? a web search reveals nothing other than mic preamps and portable recorders with built in encoders...
thanks,

amateur needs pro answer about M/S and spot mic
I am an amateur trying to record some own solo compositions on my acoustic guitar.
I want to ask about this setup:
A M/S couple 100 cm from guitar and a "spot mic" 50 cm from guitar
(in the middle between guitar ans M/S couple).
I record in a corner (facing the corner and M/S 80 cm from corner).
What about phase problems ?

M/S - What did I do wrong?
Okay - so I just recorded a chamber concert in which I both had to play and record. I only had a few minutes to set up so I had to make educated guesses as to the best positioning.

M/S Technique
Can someone please explain to me in step by step instructions how to use the mid-side Micing technique? It's something that's always intrigued me, but I've never understood it.
Also, when would I use M/S?
thanks
Mark

Hi there,
I'm somewhat confused on the relivance of the VP88 mic...
Since I would have to:
A) Record normaly into a stereo device (porta MD/DAT) and in post spread the figure 8 pattern onto 2 tracks and reverse the polarity on one track, while having the regular pattern on another track as usual.

Picking Mics - adventures in M/S
Hey guys, I asked a similar question a while back, but was looking for some advice on mics. I currently have a selection of dynamics and a pair of AKG 451b's. I was looking to get a new pair of mics to play a bit more with stereo. I especially want to experiment with M/S recording techniques.
