Kurt, AudioGaff or anybody...can you tell me the main diference between the U87 and U89? and what mic you prefer? i just found an oportunity to grab a U89( 197?) for around 600$ thanx in advance...

Hey guys need your expert opinion. I've stumbled across a Neumann 1970's era U87,.. now the grill is a bit beat up and it is 30 years old. .are there any concerns or "red flags" I should be on the look out for with a mic this old?. He's asking 1,600 for it is this a fair asking price?...I am somewhat aware of this Mic's brilliant reputation but everything has a shelf life.

Anybody know if there exists a serial number chart for vintage Neumann mics ? Like the ones available for old grand pianos where you can look up the serial number and get to know the year it's manufactured in. Just out of curiosity (no big deal if I never know) I'd like to know what year my vintage Neumann is made. The serial number is there so it should not be impossible... Any tips ?

i live in portugal and a Neumann u87 new is around 2700 euros but i know a guy who's selling it for around 1300 euros! i think i can pull it off to 1000 euros but...

how can i see it is in mint condition? i mean the membRane or stuff inside which i cannot see from outside!

Anyhoo..

As the title says, I am looking to get a new mic (well second-hand) and I am looking at both the Neumann TLM 103 and the TLM193.

Has anybody in here ever used a Neumann SP-xx console?
How is the EQ's on such a console and has it any compression?
How is the noise floor on such a unit?

hi all. Neumann km84...would this be a huge improvement over my mk012,s,on acoustic guitars?
also is it true that the km85 is the same as the 84 but with bass roll off .

I want to buy one really good vocal mic, i already have a TLM 103, c414-tl2, RODE nt-2 and lots of small diafragm condensers and dynemic mics, now,i'm lookin' for a "flagship" microphone to my mics cabinet, and on the +- same price range there is the u87 u47fet m147 and a few more mics i can't remember.
