ADAT Optical

A form of data transfer developed by Alesis for use in their ADAT machines. Using light as the carrier signal, ADAT optical is similar to TosLink two channel formula and uses a similar connector, but is optimized to include up to eight discrete channels of digital audio. Used today as one of several digital transmission protocols for linking digital audio devices.

MOTU 8pre into M-audio 410 through optical cable

I was trying to connect these two units together, M-audio being a main interface connected to PC through firewire. I connected MOTU 8-pre out into M-audio IN with optical cable. Pro Tools were running and froze right away. So I restarted computer, and can't seem to find any sign of MOTU connected on the PC. Pro Tools say that paths for inputs 5 - 32 are not found.

Optical In Questions about the XV-5050 & Digi 003

I am currently using Pro Tools LE 7.4 with a Digi 003 on a Mac Pro (2.66ghz quad; 4GB Ram).

My was using a Roland XV-88 but found that it's hum and buzz was intolerable, so I bought the XV-5050 which has all the same sounds, but an optical out.

Before I set out on my current project I need some answers to the following questions:

Route audio to another soundcard optical out.

Hi Everyone,

I wonder if anyone knows a way to accomplish the following:

I have an audio source going to the input of an Apogee Duet connected to an iMac 2.4 Mhz Core 2 Duo via firewire but would like to send that signal out on an the iMac optical out - any ideas?

Thank you for your help.

Kind regards,

Martin.

Recording Via Macbook Pro's Optical SPDIF

Is anybody out there recording straight into their Macbook Pro's optical SPDIF?

Is it possible to hook up a system that goes: preamp ---> A/D/A ---> Macbook Pro optical SPDIF?

If so, what are the drawbacks to this? Are there any quality issues? Would I be better off with a two-channel firewire system?
