How do you pan a single guitar left and right in a mix?
I have the guitar track recorded onto an eight track reel to reel.
I use a Studiomaster 16 channel mixer, with two more smaller mixers.

I'm just doing some very basic recordings for some joke songs but i was wondering how when I'm listening to pro recordings the same guitar seems to come from wide both sides as opposed to the center.

For hard rock music, what do you people all think the best way to track/pan the guitars is?
For a band with 2 guitarists where one isn't necessarily the lead, I've been recording 4 tracks and balancing them evenly.

-GuitarA - 2 tracks, one extreme left and one extreme right, both at the same level
-GuitarB - 2 tracks, same setup

I have a couple questions for some gurus out there.

First of all, what is the best way to mix two guitar tracks when they are both playing melodic lines (a la Killswitch Engage, Trivium etc)

Should they be panned to the extreme left and right or maybe halfway, or between half and extreme?

Just got done listening to some G'n'R(Appetite for Destruction) and listened to the guitar panning. I've seen a lot of people write about panning and reasons not to pan hard L/R. But, it seems that G'n'R did it with great results.

When I hard pan 100% Left and Right, it sounds like its back to Mono ! Am I crazy.?
