Question for the masters. .Should i keep the dbx Quantum for the better clock/compression/eq/limiter or do you think it wiser to buy a UAD 1 card for the plugs for recording and mastering? Is the clock mucho importante or what? thanks mark

This is driving me crazy. Has anyone got a list of the plugins that suffer from this? Perhaps we should start one.

wonder if someone can help me with this:

i recently updated drivers for the UAD card in my XP pro DAW.
the card was working nicely with v2.1 drivers, but at some point after the driver update (v2.2.6) i got this "device cannot start (code 10)" message in Device ManagerUAD-1 Powered pluginsdriver; and the pluginsare there in Nuendo but don't work.

Has anyone out there (here?) had the pleasure of comparing the hardware counterpart to your plugins Which ones and how did they stack up?
What are the closest to the real thing? The UAD? The Powercore? How close to the real thing was it? Does it really sound like a 1176? What's the record for the most question marks in a post?

Reading over my recent posts I could see how someone might think I was anti plugins That is not true. I have gotten great pleasure out of using DiNR, Fairchild 660, Joe Meequalizer, Speed, etc. I just have a healthy skepticism towards plugins Hey, you wouldn't want me to be a gullible parroter of ad copy would you? As promised, I have a bold prediction about the future of modelling plugins (and no, it doesn't have anything to do with supermodels).

The idea that a plugin can turn an sm58 into a u47 seems completely implausible. Any thoughts? Cheers, Doc

I've been holding off on buying an outboard reverb and/or effects unit untill I get the real word on the Macki/UAD and TC Powercore cards.

In theory, the added dsp power should mean more complex algorythms and therefore better reverbs and sound effects, right?
