I don't like to sound like I would in this posting but I'll give it a try. So I heard some preamps sound really good and I was wondering if my main source of recording is already an interface with integrated pre's and I wanted to connect another pre ( a better one) into any of them do I really get the sound of the first or second pre?

Im alittle torn between two preamps right now, which are the dbx 386 and the Aphex 207d. both of these are tube, which doesnt matter if they are tube or solid state,

Ive been recording for awhile but I use an Emu 1820M with phantom power to power my Studio Projects B3 Mic.

Now I am going to feel like a total idiot for asking this, but here goes.

Lest say I have a sweet pre-amp, like an Avalon 737.
What good will that do if my mic is supposed to be phatom powered?

So a friend of mine has a 002r and he had the mic preamps hot rodded to API pres. Has anyone ever heard of this. If so do you know where I could have it done? how much it cost? any of that?

Hi ive been reading posts all day about mic preamps and everything. I know a preamp gives condensers their power and all but ive seen some preamps for over $1000 so I must be missing something. I use an Alesis Multimix FW to record my vocals. Does the Alesis have a preamp inside of it?

Ok, I have been looking for a short while for a good mic and preamp combo. The main purpose of these is to record studio vocals, acoustic guitar, and maybe piano as well. Mainly Vocals. Im looking possilbly for tube gear that will give me the warmth, character, and coloration of vintage gear. I have a 2-$3,000 budget to work with, and Im not in a rush to find anything.

My budgets $400 or less. I'm gonna be recording loud female and male vocals for project studio.

What about "the brick"?

hi there I'm thinking of getting a little external tube mic preamp to "warm and fattern" up my mics sound which is used only to record vocals. the equiptment i have is a RODE nt1000 and a zoom mrs1004 digital workstation. the RODE nt1000 is quite a nice sounding mic but a little too bright so I'm looking for something to warm it up.
