Can an amplifier be used as a preamp and plugged into a mixer?
Hello,
While I'm fairly comfortable on the playing end of things, I know nothing at all about recording. I was given a BOSS BR-900CD as a gift, and am attempting to make some use of it right now. I also got a Fishman Loudbox Mini (acoustic amplifier) for Christmas, and it has an external speaker jack.
My question:
Mic vs. Preamp
What's better? A $500 mic and a $100 preamp, or a $100 mic and a $500 preamp? What I'm wondering is what's more important to get a decent sound? The mic or the preamp? Is the overall equipment more dependent on one over the other? Thanks for the help. If this topic has already been discussed, please point me to the thread.

Ribbon microphone preamps
I'm in the middle of ribbon microphone gas and doing my due diligence before purchase.
So I contacted Doug Fearn to see if he felt my VT1 would have enough juice for a passive ribbon mic - I did not ask about active ribbons.

two preamps in one chain?
i just bought a PreSonus digimax d8 preamp.
I'm thinking about sometime in the near future to buy the studio live 16.4.2 digital mixer. it has the same preamps as the digimax d8, the only difference is that it says it has 67 DB of gain, vs. the digimax's 60db.

Using a Mcintosh 1900 Receiver as a preamp
grandfather recently died and i ended up with some old school top of the line home audio gear.
really stoked about a sweet sounding pair of b&w speakers, a 50lb. Yamaha turntable and mostly about a "mac 1900" stereo receiver. haven't had much chance to look into the specs on the 1900 but it's solid state with tubes...

Good Preamp for Vocals?
Hey guys! I'm looking for a good/great preamp to suit my vocals well. In another thread a lot of guys preferred I get a dynamic mic instead of a condenser due to the type of vocals I record; rap. I'm currently looking at the Focusrite ISA One which is about $499.99. Mics that were suggested are: Shure Beta 58A & Sennheiser e835 (plan on getting both).

preamp
Ok. I'm out of search term ideas. Last winter we had a discussion on preamps (shock) for one reason or another. Someone mentioned a small company in the US and I remember they looked awesome. I have however forgotten the name and though I swear I bookmarked the page, I can not find it anywhere. Any ideas?
