Description

A preamplifier, also known as a preamp, is an electronic amplifier that converts a weak electrical signal into an output signal strong enough to be noise-tolerant and strong enough for further processing, or for sending to a power amplifier and a loudspeaker. Without this, the final signal would be noisy or distorted.

DIY mic preamp options?

Hi all, brand new here. Hope I'm asking in the right place.

I've been in live sound for ages but am just building up my first recording rig.

I have a pair of AKG 414's and would like to complement them with some better preamps than my Soundcraft K1 console (which seems fine for general band tracking but I'd like something a bit special for vocal overdubs etc).

Looking for audio interface / mic preamp recommendations (spoken vocals, Shure SM7B)

Hi all! I'm putting together a home studio and am looking for some recommendations before I buy.

As for my situation, I'm recording spoken vocals for audio-only video games -- essentially radio dramas with some interactive elements. For now I only need to record 1 actor at a time, but I want my studio to support more than that in case I need multiple simultaneous actors later on.

Alesis iO2 Interface and ART Tube Preamp - Do i still need a better soundcard?

I read a great reply to a different post about upgrading to an external soundcard and I wondered if this would apply to me also if I am only recording vocals over instrumental tracks and my signal chain is mic>preamp>interface>PC USB input. The songs will be mixed by the producer, I'm only adding my vocals. I record with Cubase LE.

Thanks for any advice.

USB Preamp that works with Windows 7?

Does anyone know of a usb preamp that's phantom powered and most importantly works with windows 7? My old mobile pre usb has drivers for windows 7 but they're TERRIBLE. It keeps making most of my audio jacks not work. I only use it for podcasting.

I'd like to register, but I don't know the name of the cable that starts with m that the pros use...

Preamp not recording to DAW

Hello, I use Logic 9 with Mac mini 4.1 connected to UAD-2 Satillite Quad connected to a Firewire repeater box (the reccommended one) which I have my Duet and back up drive connected to. This set up works and I can record vox and instrument with no problem. However, when I want to use my new Focusrite ISA one preamp, I haven't been able to record onto my DAW.
