does anyone know of a free recording software that will work on windows xp pro and with my roland vm3100pro R-Bus connection and PCI card? i was using logic but it only works with win 98 and i am a bit past that now. thanks for any help.

I'm putting together a recording studio to record drums for the most part (so I need 8 mic preamps at least), and I've pretty much decided that I'm going with the Mackie Onyx 1620 (about $700 US) as mixer, along with the M-Audio Firewire 1814 (about $430) as digital interface. Of course I'll need mics etc but I think I'm straight in that area.

I am searching for a decent software recorder to record audio.

I have used different recording software, but not to the point where I know them all really good. I've used Nuendo, cubase, and Sonar 3 prod edition, and Magix studio 6,7, and the 2004 version...

I apologize in advance for my lack of in depth knowledge of recording software. To preface myself and my question, I am a musician. I’ve recorded several times using Logic Pro 7, and many variations of Pro Tools, but I haven’t actually used the programs, I’ve just played my axe into them.

I'm kind of new at this, so please forgive me - and let me know - if I'm not making sense.

I’m in the process of preparing a theater piece – piano, horns, strings, woodwinds, drums and vocals. I wanted to do it completely on the computer (maybe not the piano...) I already have a good system. I wanted to know what would be a good choice of program(s).

I want to reach someone that can give me advice on pc recording software such as cubase, cakewalk etc.

I want to use something I can figure out quickly, But be able to use later. Any suggestions?

While I'm a satisfied Sonar user for the most part, I've listened to most of the mainstream software out there. I don't know if it's just my imagination, but the demo of Samplitude 7 seems to sound better. I'm just not talking about effects, but simply playing files with no processing. Some say this can't be the case, but my ears tell me otherwise.
