Micing an electric guitar amp using an SM58

Ok, so, I'm attempting to record some guitar tracks onto a Zoom H4 4 track recorder. The recorder has 2 mic inputs. I have 1, possibly 2 sm58s available to me, and I just took the capsule off the mic, and placed it on an angle facing the amp. The recorder also has 2 built in condenser mic's in an XY pattern, if that would be better.

Another SM58 - SM57 Question

Hails all,

Vocally is there a big difference between the 57 and 58? Would it be worth trying to use both when recording demo vocals? Right now I'm not looking for an awesome sound otherwise, I'd use better Mics but off hand I have a SM57, and a few 58's. Is there a large difference frequecy-wise in the two mics? I always thought they were pretty much the same save the covers.

Shure SM58

I'm not Shure (Excuse the pun!) if this post is in the correct forum however I couldn't think where else to submit it :?

Having compared the Shure SM58's with other microphones, I noticed that it is not as sensitive picking up sound. With an AKG D 880M for instance, the gain does not have to be turned up as high for the same level of output.
