sm7 for rock vocals, NE experience?
This came up on another of my posts and so I was curious if anyone had used this mic for rock vocals. Like I said in another post I read somewhere that Rick Rubin used this on some of the System of a Down vocal tracks.

SM7 vs. . RE-20 vs. . ATM25
Hello,
I am looking for a nice dynamic for recording that will fit these roles:
1) Studio Voiceover
2) Kick/Bass cab
3) Intrument - Trumpet/Sax
I have a PreSonus Firepod for location work and a Firewire 410 for home use.
I listened to the Sennheiser. 421 and did not like it, so I came up with these three.

SM7 vs. . MD421
I'd like to get a large diameter dynamic to compliment my existing collection (small though it is),it looks as though the sm7 would be a good vocal mic for me,I have a voice that has been said to sound almost exactly like DAvid Byrn,I'd say bits of Springsteen and Elvis Costello as well. The thing is I'd like to get a 421 for guitar and I can't buy both. How would a 421 sound on my voice?

EV RE 20 or Shure SM7?
EV RE 20 or Shure SM7?
Hey guys and gals, looking to round out mic collection. Never used either of these but would like to change that. Was wondering on what the consensus was. Uses: kick, floor toms, bass cab, vox? etc. Thanks J

EV RE20 vs. . SM7b vs. . 421
Hey everybody. I want to improve my mic closet. Since my only dynamic mics are a 57 and a 602, one of the above three mics is probably a safe bet.

60 million records with a Shure SM7($300) mic!
Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" was recorded by Bruce Sweiden through a Massenburg console and a Shure SM7 mic. Bruce said he wanted the sound of a dynamic mic specifically, and not a large condensor(Mix Mag 1997). This was a number one song, and was the Hottest! thing when I was in 3rd grade. To all my fellow gear junkies...when in doubt use your ears and experiment, not your wallet.
