What do Use your Sm7B for?

I just picked up a SM7B this weekend. I had never used one before.

I was a bit shocked by how smooth it was.

It produced a decent vocal sound even when compared to my U87.

Anyway I tried it on Vocals, ACU GTR and Tabla. It was decent at all but would not be my first choice for any of those. The handling noise is fantastic as is the SPL handling.

Will MBox 2 have sufficient gain to power SM7?

I plan on purchasing a Shure SM7B for hip hop vocals, and I also plan on purchasing the Mbox 2 with Pro Tools to accompany it in recording. I've heard about problems with using the SM7 with an interface/pre that doesn't have enough gain to handle it, so I was just curious if the Mbox 2 will work well to get solid, clean recordings with the SM7.

Thanks!

Interface for Dynamic Mic like SM7?

Forums

I am recording with a Macbook Pro, and thinking about getting a SM7B for hip hop vocals. I'm kind of new to this, and I know that dynamic mics don't need phantom power and all of that like condensers do... so, this may be a dumb question, but does that mean that there's a cheaper option for me as far as an interface goes without sacrificing too much sound quality?

RE20, SM7, MD 421 or AT3035 for recording audio book/eduCD

Hi to everyone

As I mentioned in the title, I need to record some speaking voice/narrations with male and female talents for audio book/educational CD with lessons for the foreign langauge. Since the budget is pretty tight (as usuall), the narrators would be teachers; not proffesional voice over talents.
