Description

S/PDIF is a type of digital audio interconnect used in consumer audio equipment to output audio over relatively short distances. The signal is transmitted over either a coaxial cable with RCA connectors or a fiber optic cable with TOSLINK connectors.

S/PDIF

Does anyone know a decent S/PDIF AD I could get to use the last 2 inputs on my EMU 1212?

By the way, my set-up is a nice tribute to this forum. I have an EMU 1212(new):$150. Behringer ADA8000(seems new):$140. Cubase SL3:$102. I got all those off ebay. On top of that, I get to borrow a set of mics from my friends second PA that just sit around most of the time.

ADAT or S/PDIF ?

Im running an E-MU 1820 that is connected to my computer through the sound card that came with it. It uses a wide cable that is similar in appearance to a LAN network cable. I can switch the settings through its DSP software to use either ADAT or S/PDIF. It still runs through the same cable even when I switch settings but I cant really tell any difference.

Mic preamp -> S/PDIF -> Mbox2 = 4 mic inputs on Mbox2?

Hi.
I don't know much about digital signals and stuff. I just realized my Mbox 2 has 4 inputs, the 2 mic preamps and a 2 channel S/PDIF thingy (?). Am I right? So, is there a piece of hardware that lets me hook up two microphones, and send the signal via S/PDIF to my Mbox 2, so I can record from four microphones at the same time to seperate channels?

S/PDIF and AES/EBU

I have been researching these two terms, and am slightly confused! I understand that S/PDIF is more or less a consumer grade version of AES/EBU. They are both a means to transfer digital audio between two devices, correct? Assuming I've got that part right, I'm having trouble finding out what type of modifications I would need to make to a PC to use either one of these connections.

S/PDIF Woes

Let's say you have 4 or 5 pieces of outboard gear that utilize S/PDIF and you would like to bring these units into your signal chain to a Pro Tools Digi001 or any other front-end that has only one input/output for S/PDIF? (and I'm talking RCA connections)
