I need a small box that will allow me to feed the signal from 3 preamps into the front of 1 compressor out into 1 track of pro tools. Providing a location recording equivelant of busing multiple mics to 1 track, is there such a box?

I am trying to figure out what would meet my mixing requirements.

The gap I'm trying to fill is the following:

Mics -> Hardy M1 (3 channel) and Focusrite Liquid Channel -> LynxTWO cards -> DAW -> LynxTWO cards (DA) ->

GAP for analog mixing and summing solution - insert recommendation here...

I have seen on a couple of preamps the ability to do m-s summing when recording stereo using the m/s technique.

Will 64 bit Processing Improve summing? should I get into analog summing or wait for improvements that may come along with 64 bit processing?

I'm curious. Has anyone attempted to build their own summing bus? The ones on the market (Dangerous 2b, Manley, Folcrum) are pricey. If you can build one for a $30 bucks why not try it. Below are some links for DIY summing mixers. I can solder a cable but Idon't know squat about building a circuit.

Is there really anything to this summing bus thing? Is there any difference in the qualtiy? I am a Cubase SX2 user. Has anyone started to mix outside the box and noticed a big difference?

What the hell is it exactly? What is it used for? Why would you use it?

this is a summing test i did to see if summing off a board was better then daw summing. These mixes are both identical mixes. One was subbed at unity gain with identical panning and used internal makeup gain of a dm24 digital mixer no pan pots were touched and perfect level matching the other was summed in pro tools le that is backtogether1.
