Hey guys, i'm new the the forum and this is my first post. I've revently bought an m-audio keystation 49 because i'm getting into synths. I've had Ableton Live 5 for a year now. I recently noticed that it seriously lacks in the midi department.

I have a Hercules Game Theater for my computer audio. it came with this Yamaha S-YXG50 SoftSynthesizer. What the heck is that, and what can i do with it?

so ive got a big job coming up where the main parts are going to be done on 3 different analog Korgs synths. my client is also going to be using an analog drum machine and a light sensitive therum. my question is, should i be using direct boxes on all of these?

I presently have a PC with Cubase SX. For sampler I use Halion, Synth: I'm using Hypersonic.
Within few months I'll be switching to Pro Tools Le because I need to be compatible with studios using Protools. (I'll probably be getting a Mac as well, sooner or later)

I was just wondering if anyone could chime me in on some quality synths or keyboards for a studio musician to use. I mainly need it to add effects and samples i couldn'tdo with other such devices. Im looking for somthing in the $300-$1000 price range. Any suggestions?

after answering this: so, is it possible to match the "payware" sound quality with freeware? (both for "modern sounds", audio quality ecc ecc)

I was wondering, the bass-sound on songs like High Crime by Al Jarreau, is it synth bass?

If it's bass-guitar, what kind of effect is he using, and how?

Another example is Canned Heat by Jamiroquai, now I know this is synth bass, but has anyone got any idea which effects and how to use them to get this kind of sound?
