Software Synthesizer

A software application that emulates some type of hardware synthesizer. Since computer power has increased radically in the last few years, it is now feasible to have a host computer do the work previously done using hardware. Some virtual synthesizers mimic a particular vintage synthesizer, while others are more generic in nature.

Synthesizer

In reference to wireless microphones, a synthesizer is a circuit that generates a stable and precise radio frequency output on any one of a number of preset frequencies. Synthesizers are used as the local oscillators for receivers, and to set the output frequency of transmitters.

what software recommended to synth a vocal or drum recording

Can any recommend a software for Cubase 4 or 5 compatability to do synthesizing effects on drum and vocal analog recorded tracks. robic sounding vocal stuff and cool drum intro stuff etc. I downloaded a demo version of Alchemy(?) but couldn't figure out how to get it to do this even though they say it can. They have a cool demo video.

Synthe VST Alternatives to Absynthe or Omnisphere

I'm just looking for basic but good preset synthe sounds not unlike the Killers used on their debut LP "Hot Fuss". I tried absynthe but wasn't feeling the presets and don't know enough to tweak them to sound how I'd like, besides they didn't have much in the way of steady saw/lead type stuff. And Omnisphere is too massive for what I want.
