Normalizing separate tracks before mastering

Hi all, I was wondering about your thoughts on normalizing certain tracks before mastering. What I mean is, though I have some of the equipment, I'm certainly not going to be mastering myself. I don't even want to learn that badly. Really I want to send all my mixes to a professional mastering studio who know what they're doing.

moving individual drum tracks into better phase

Being a drummer myself, I'm always looking for a better way to record drums. The other day I tried recording individual pieces of my drums and then sequencing them in DP3. It came out better than I thought it would. I used an Audix D4 inside the kick (I have Tama Starclassic Maple drums which are awsome) and a tube condenser about 3 ft away.

drum tracks from top engineers .

Yup you heard me, I'm going nuts. I've been trying to conquer drum sounds for years, and every time I get a new opportunity, I just can't seem to get the sounds in my head. And it keeps me up at night thinking about it. Sure some better equipment would help, but I just had a thought.. what if the SOUNDS I was going for individually are "wrong"?
