How many tracks till you break you PC's back

I use Tracktion 3 as my DAW and I love the layout and feel of it. Well I recorded 24 tracks today and with only 8 plugins I started to get the stutters. I running Windows XP Pro (32Bit), with an AMD X2-4800 cpu (dual core) and 4 gigs of memory. My hard drives are all 7200rpm WD. And all inessential processes are removed from Windows.

Having an issue when I try bouncing tracks to final mix

I am a noob, but I have a decent amount of experience with recording just not with pro-tools. I have a delta 1010LT with a 16 track mixer. anyways, whenever I get the tracks all set to make a final mix and bounce the tracks over, no matter what format I bounce it to, the distorted guitars sound flangery, drums and bass go to sh*t, etc.

Have u thought about recording your recorded tracks on tape?

So you should, in order to get a fatter sound and that soft hi end. It's even easier to mix and you can avoid to sound too "digital" like eveybody.
Most of the major recordings are doing it before to start mixing. At least for the drums, but bass, guitars and lead vocal make the difference too.
