with all this talk of preamps i came acrosed this and was wandering if any one has used one or if they are any good?

Phonic - T8100 Tube Microphone Preamp

anybody got one ?whats your opinion of it?

I am still a beginner with Pro Tools and recording in general. I have an Mbox, and have make some decent recordings, but I just picked up a PreSonus TubePre and now I'm having a very tough time getting my vocals to sound right. : (

Is there any use of this box that wants to share some impression about it?

I've owned this pre for some time now and have used it on certain occasions. I assume it has a bit of competition now-a-days. I don't hear any noticable difference between it and my TC Helicon Voice Prism I may use once in while for vocal effects. I've posted a topic or two about preamps and found out that you can't skip or compromise in this area.

Does anyone here have any experience with old Ampex, Altec or Grommes tube pres ( or mixers)? They can be had for 500$ or so and the claI'm is they have a "big iron" sound from the transformers and tubes...Not as a main pre but for something different with some color..

What do you guys think? I'm considering buying a nice tube pre (maybe that N72 thingie over at seventhcirclestudios.com) strictly to run my sounds through.

My primary concern is vocals, but I think I'm gonna go the clean route (rnp style) and if it needs edge, then I'll either run it back out to my dirty pre or apply a virtual tube or two.

Has anyone tried the new Behringer tube pre, i'm looking at getting a really cheap tube pre and this one is ridiculously cheap. Is there a reason for the cheap price of $79 CDN, yet does it still get the job done sounding good? Ponder that.

I need a good pre for mic tube mic(M147 tube from Neumann), i should to by a solid state Pre or a tube one?
Also which brand is good for my mic?
