I have to have my GCSE course work submitted for Friday. Sadly my music computer has gone to pot and I am left with no way of notating my vocals line for my exam piece. I am a musician of about 25 yrs or so...give or take, but not playing pro at this time. I am new to digital recording...totally green, you might say. I have used various Tascam anolog machines over the years, but not anything on a computer before. I am looking for help with a couple of things. I just bought a new computer for the sole purpose of recording.

I was wondering if there are any good books or online tutorials to give me more knowledge or a new approach to the mixing process? I'm stuck in a rut and no matter what band I record, even on different gear, they generally end up sounding the same.

NB: I appreciate their could be some editorial conflict here - so I won't be offended if this thread dissapears!

I have been able through a studio to work on some mastering gigs as an assistant, the studio is closing and the main engineer is a nut.I was looking for some sort of well respected mastering course, workshop or school that i could travel to(i am in Toronto Canada).Something that would give me a fresh approach starting from the basics and hopefully eventually including new formats like 5.1 or S
