Death Metal Vocals
I was wondering if anyone knows how to get the effect that is used in a lot of death metal on the vocals. A great example of the is "Dead by Dawn" by Deicide, the sounds of the growling and screams in the beginning. It's sort of a phasing type sound that I have heard on many Deicide songs and also some Bloodbath songs like "The Soulcollector".

Tracking vocals without compression
I'm a professional musician, not an enginner, so maybe I'm missing something. I've been tracking vocals for a singer through a pretty good signal chain of Mojave Audio Mic/Focusrite ISA220/G5/Digital Performer.

Best Condenser mic for sharp growling vocals?
Can any of you give any tips on the best condenser mic to use for heavy growling vocals, an example would be, Chester Bennington from Linkin Park or maybe something in the likes of Phil Anselmo from Pantera, or Chad Gray from Mudvayne.
Thx
Def Leppard Vocals
I'm wondering if anyone knows how Def Leppard would have gone about recording vocals on their albums... they tend to use a lot of layers... however their is always the dominant voice that sticks out... Has anyone played around and tried to get this sound? The singer isn't fantastic... but sounds great on recording...
Regards,
Spiro

are those vocals really that dry?
i record a lot of hardcore and punk bands and a lot of the albums refrenced sound like the vocals are very dry but full. i have played around with keeping the vocals dry but they endup just sounding kind of naked and not blending into the song. i was just wondering what some tips are to give the "illusion" of dry vocals but still have them sit well in the mix.
thanks

Hi,
See on a lot of tracks artificial harmonised vocals
How is it done?
I've tried copying and pasting samples and altering the second one up in pitch.. but it sounds um... somewhat strange.. like a hissing sound... and also.. the harmonies don't always work
so how is it done?

Hardcore vocals
I'm convinced that a lot of people use at least SOME kind of effect when they do hardcore. One that is predominate is a type of delay that doesn't have a lot of run-off. Does anyone know about any other effects they might use? Distortion would help I'm sure.

Using limiter on vocals
ok, now before I record vocals I adjust the mic volume first to ensure a zero to minimum amount of clipping concidering my position and potential peak volume. After I'm done recording and tweaking any volumes as needed I have a vocal wav with zero clipping.
